Vaishno Devi Yatra
The Sacred shrine of Mata Vaishno Devi is among the most visited pilgrim of India. It is located at a distance of 61 kms from Jammu at the height of 5,300 ft. Katra town lying in the Foot of Trikuta Mountains is a base camp for the pilgrims to start their journey which is 48 Kms from Jammu. From here the shrine is approachable on foot which is just 13 kms away. The sacred cave is 30 meter long and just one and a half meter high. It is here that Vaishno Devi merged her Human form .In the cave there are images of three deities named Mahalakshmi and Mahasaraswatiand Mahakali.The best time to visit the shrine is between March to July. The shrine is maintained by Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board. Yatris are issued authentic yatra slips which are free of coast but are necessary to carry by each yatri. These slips are available at Yatra Registration counter at the Tourism Reception Centre Katra Bus Stand.With out an authentic yatra slip, crossing Banganga check post will not be allowed.
On reaching Bhawan, each yatri need to show their yatra slip at the Registration Office and collect the Batch No. provided on the slip. This number will determine their place in the queue for darshan.
How To reach
By Air: The closest airport to the shrine is in Jammu whis is 48 kms from Katra. Helicopter service is also available at Sanjhi Chat.
Jammu airport is well connected to the major airports such as Delhi, Srinagar and Leh.
By Rail:-The nearest railway station is also in Jammu, which is well connected to all the major parts in India.
By Road: The bus service is run by the jammu and Kashmir state transport corporation which operate the buses
From jammu to Katra . Private and deluxe bus service is also available from Jammu to Katra for this 52 km Long trip.
